Side Project: Lulu.com Search Bar

Mark Mzyk | April 23, 2008

Last night I had a free evening, so I opted to do a project I’ve been meaning to do for a while: write the code needed to put a Lulu.com option in the search bar you likely see in the upper right corner of your browser.  It operates just like the Google option that is the default if you have Firefox.  Nothing difficult about it.

You can install it from here:

http://www.programmersparadox.com/lulusearchbar.html

It’s not a pretty install page, but that isn’t the point.  The point was to make something functional, and to that end, I think it’s successful.

Please note that this was a side project of mine.  It was written on my own time and is not supported by Lulu.com in any way. Also not that it is provided as is.  I’ll be happy to listen if you have something to suggest, but consider this an unsupported project.

I would like to thank my coworker John for helping make the image used with the search bar not look terrible, which is how my first attempt turned out.

If you also look at the links in the side bar, you’ll see I’ve added a page for projects, so that is where the permanent link will live for this project, and any future projects I undertake.
